The Old Market

Brighton and Hove's brightest independent venue 
is in Hove, actually...

The Old Market is an independent theatre and venue, funded and managed by artists. We aim to provide an excellent framework for, and to encourage, the presentation and production of the arts.

We actively programme innovative, accessible, high quality pieces of work across a range of artistic disciplines. We also provide the space and infrastructure to facilitate a broad range of performance, including local, amateur and community work.

In our own “TOM’s” programming, we aim to appeal to a socially and culturally broad audience. 


Our theatre programme presents innovative storytelling using multidisciplinary techniques and new technologies. Our live music programme presents emerging bands and old favorites, who share a demand for high production values and a quality acoustic setting. Our comedy programme presents a diverse selection of new, challenging and relevant voices from the circuit. Across our diverse programme of talks, presentations and events, The Old Market continues to inspire debate and creativity, particularly through our active and engaged community of photographers, designers, artists and makers.

Our TOMTech and Reigning Women seasons exemplify our approach to programming and extending boundaries.
